Quantities + Monday
First of all, thankyou everyone who showed up and worked with us so patiently today, it's all looking fantastic! Had a few teething troubles, mostly to do with images being the wrong resolution, so for anyone who's still working on their pages, please remember any images really do need to be at least 300dpi even after they've been scaled up, and grayscale. For anyone who took their work back to alter or who arranged to hand in later, Kate and Bethan will be in college from 12-2 on Monday to collect work/smooth out any problems. According to the list so far this includes:
Tara Samaha
Gemma Rhead
Will Samuel
Clare Acheson
Jan-Eric Skevik
Danielle Mullis
Sunny Kwak
Farzana Faruque
Olivia Chiu
Caroline Wymer
If you want to email the work in this weekend and save yourself the trip, go for it, the address is firstlastmagazine@googlemail.com.
Also, though we managed to ask most people how many copies they'd be buying, we just wanted to check that this is correct, so please check the list and if you're not on it, let us know how many you'd like. The price is now £3 (to cover the colored paper for the front page) and we were thinking that if anyone was willing to chip in maybe an extra 50p on top of that, it might allow us to print some extras to try and distribute to small shops etc (that part's entirely at your discretion though, just an idea). Anyway, here's what we have so far:
Clare A: 3
Rachel A: 1
Haley A: 1
Miranda B: 2
Erica B: 2
Rob C: 2
Reuben D: 2
Maisie D: 2
Joanna E: 2

Tahmina R: 3
Will S: 4
Kate S: 5

More!
Hey, the magazine will now cost £3.00
Here are some more exact details for the covers for your magazines:
-Cover paper must be no more than 350gsm (weight) and no more than 300mcn (microns - this is paper thickness, which i have actually never heard of but don't worry, I'm sure whatever you choose will be fine).
-Cut your paper down to A3 size for hand in on friday
If you would like to bring an extra sheet to do a tester beforehand that would be great as I'm hoping to do some tests on friday.
Thanks

Friday Hand-In
Hopefully everyone got the email about Friday's hand-in times from Luke, hope these are all convenient for you. Please bring in your work on a USB stick or CD, as both a working InDesign package (File>Preflight) and a pdf. Also, a few people have mentioned not having access to Adobe Caslon - part of the reason we chose the font was that it usually comes with CS2, but if you can't get hold of it, for the time being please just leave the relevant text editable and we'll try to fix it when you come in on Friday.

Update - printing specs and paper covers
By now hopefully you are all working on ideas for your pages; here are a few changes and things to remember,
-DO NOT include a bleed on your work - just work up to the parameters of 20x25cm (portrait)
-Make sure you still have a safety margin of 1cm inside the edge of your double page spread in case it gets a bit chopped
-Make sure you use semi bold type because it may not show up well if it's white on black
FRIDAY 25th - Deadline for submissions. Also the deadline to bring in paper if you want a personal cover/s. Strict rules apply!
-DO NOT choose a paper any thicker than 300gsm
-DO NOT choose a paper which is metallic, glittery, acetate, plasticky, or anything else weird. It won't work.
-Please bring more than you think is enough - we need to cut it to size, and remember how many copies of the magazine you want.
The magazine will cost £2.50 each. We will be taking down numbers tomorrow so have a think about how many you want.
Thankyou!
